
Seema Kakade
Board Member since March 2020, Seema is an Associate Professor and Director of the Environmental Law Clinic at the University of Maryland School of Law. Her clinic engages 10 students each year in the practice of law, focusing on permitting, regulatory comments, client counseling, and litigation for environmental justice communities. Her research interests are in the area of environmental enforcement and compliance and she has published articles in the Harvard Environmental Law Review and the Ecology Law Quarterly. Before coming to the University of Maryland, Seema worked as an attorney for the federal government at both the US Environmental Protection Agency and the US Department of Energy. She also has experience in private practice and as a research attorney with the Environmental Law Institute. Seema was elected into the American College of Environmental Law in 2019 and has won numerous awards for her work both in the federal government and at the University of Maryland. Seema lives in Howard County, Maryland, with her husband and two children. She loves spending time outdoors, including biking, canoeing, and hiking.
