Maryland General Assembly Sets Aside Funding for Clean Water Enforcement
CLA provided legal support to Maryland Clean Agriculture Coalition (MCAC) and offered information to the Maryland Legislative Budget Committee concerning the impacts of declined water quality enforcement. As a result of hard work by MCAC and its partners, as well as CLA, the final budget passed last week by the Maryland General Assembly for FY2018 sets aside $400,000 to hire enforcement and compliance staff at the Maryland Departments of Agriculture (MDA) and the Environment (MDE), reversing years of declining funding for enforcement of environmental laws.
