Construction stormwater runoff is one of the Chesapeake Bay watershed's most persistent and growing pollution problems. At Ridgely's Reserve, a 100+ acre development site in Joppa, Maryland, repeated sediment discharges have sent tons of pollution into local waterways and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay.
Chesapeake Legal Alliance Senior Attorney and Director of the Environmental Action Center Evan Isaacson, and Litigation Manager of the Environmental Action Center Patrick DeArmey, will discuss the Ridgely's Reserve case, what happened, what the case means for the health of the Gunpowder River and the Chesapeake Bay, and the lessons it offers for preventing and addressing construction pollution across the watershed. Theaux Le Gardeur, the Gunpowder Riverkeeper and client during the case, will also share insight into his experience and perspective throughout the legal process and its impacts on the Gunpowder River.
