Public Comment Opportunity—Arlington County WWTP Draft Pollution Discharge Permit

Jackie Goodrum, Haley Capone

October 8, 2025

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is currently accepting public comment on the draft pollution discharge permit for the Arlington County Wastewater Treatment Plant. The draft permit contains no limits on discharges of PFAS from the facility despite sampling data showing PFAS contamination in the facility's surface water discharges and biosolids. The Arlington County Wastewater Treatment Plant discharges into Four Mile Run, a tributary of the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay.

The deadline for comments is October 23, 2025. Email comments to Celeste DuFour at NRO.VPDESPermits@deq.virginia.gov. Be sure to include the following information in your comment: (1) your name; (2) your email address; (3) a request for a public hearing on this permit; and (4) how this permit decision will impact your interest in protecting the Chesapeake Bay.
